Description for Gite
Discover the enchanting Valley of MunsterSituated in the southernmost part of the Vosgean solid mass, the picturesque Valley of Munster stretches westward from Colmar. Renowned for its cheese production, this valley offers a delightful and invigorating escape in the heart of the Vosges. With its high-altitude pastures, fir forests, and serene villages, the Valley of Munster is an ideal destination for summer excursions and winter skiing. The main town in the valley, Munster, is a paradise for cheese lovers as it lends its name to the delectable Munster cheese.
While exploring the valley, one will encounter wild and captivating landscapes. Quaint villages with half-timbered houses, such as Mittlach, Metzeral, and Muhlbach, cling to the slopes, exuding charm at every turn. One must not miss the opportunity to partake in the tradition of the marcaire meal, a local specialty, at one of the mountainous farmhouse inns. This nourishing mountain feast naturally pays homage to the famous Munster cheese. During the summer months, the bilberry tart is a highly sought-after dessert.
As the weather warms, countless opportunities for exploration arise in the area. The GR5 trail, among others, partially winds through the valley, offering unforgettable hiking experiences. In winter, skiing enthusiasts flock to the valley to enjoy both alpine and cross-country skiing.
