Description for B&B:
Located in the heart of Cathar country, between the medieval city of Carcassonne, the Canal du Midi, and the Black Mountain, Montolieu Book Village is a must-visit destination for those seeking cultural exploration and relaxation. Nestled in the countryside, at the end of a scenic road along the river in a picturesque valley, you will find The Forge of Montolieu. This former forge and mill, transformed into a magnificent late nineteenth-century mansion, is surrounded by a park filled with ancient channels and hidden paths, offering a delightful variety of vegetation.Run by Charles and Laura Cowen, The Forge of Montolieu offers four spacious bedrooms, each reflecting the industrial history and the golden age of the house. Two of the rooms, the Goddess and Madame Gazelle, are incredibly large and feature a double and single bed respectively. The Goddess room overlooks the river to the east, while Madame Gazelle offers views of the ginko biloba trees and an audience of cyclamen to the west. Ourika's room, with two beds, provides a stunning view of a waterfall that cascades beneath the house. Lastly, Mr. Wolf's bedroom boasts a king-sized bed and offers a majestic view of nature, with the oldest Douglas fir in Europe standing proudly in the foreground. These first-floor rooms are serviced by two spacious bathrooms that echo the tranquility of the river.
Guests of The Forge of Montolieu have their own dedicated room, ensuring privacy and comfort during their stay. Enjoy a delicious breakfast, as well as lunch or dinner upon request, served at a beautiful wrought-iron table in the expansive kitchen or outside when the weather permits.
