Description for B&B:
We are situated in Mesland, a picturesque village on the north bank of the Loire river, between Blois and Amboise. Mesland is a notable stop on the Loire Valley vineyard route and is conveniently located near the main "châteaux" attractions. Our property, a former wine estate, was constructed in the mid-19th century and consists of a grand mansion built in 1846, a serene park adorned with century-old trees, and the former stable and wine production facility. The Clos, where the last harvest took place in 1955, offers a tranquil setting for relaxation and refreshment, complete with a 14m swimming pool and comfortable deckchairs.
The Loire Valley, recognized by UNESCO as a "World Heritage" site, boasts breathtaking landscapes including the untamed Loire river, expansive forests, and majestic Royal Castles.
Mesland, our charming village, is nestled amidst vineyards and is situated along the renowned "Wine Road." It was established as a Priory in the 12th century by monks from the Marmoutier Abbey, and the Notre-Dame church still stands as a testament to its history. Mesland has even given its name to the "Touraine-Mesland" category of Loire Valley wines, which you can sample directly from the producers.
The Clos Sainte-Marie enjoys a prime location in close proximity to the most famous castles of the Loire Valley, including Chaumont sur Loire with its international garden festival, Amboise with the "Clos Lucé" - former residence of Leonardo Da Vinci, Blois, Chenonceau, Cheverny, and Chambord. We highly recommend the Michelin green guide "Castles of the Loire" for exploring the region.
Families with children will find an abundance of activities in the area, such as mini-castles in Amboise, the Loire Valley Aquarium in Lussault-sur-Loire, "Lulu Parc" for the little ones in Rochecorbon, the Beaumarchais animal reservation with its safari train in Autrèche, and the famous Beauval Zoo with over 4000 animals in Saint-Aignan.
In addition to castle visits, the region offers numerous activities for all ages, including wine tastings (we can provide recommendations), hot air balloon rides over the Loire river and castles, boat trips to discover the Loire, various walking and biking tours (we can arrange bike rentals), and horse riding at the Val de Loire Equestrian Center.
For golf enthusiasts, there are several nearby courses to choose from, including Golf de la Carte (18-hole), Golf de Fleuray-Amboise (9-hole), and Golf du Château de Cheverny (18-hole spanning over 6 kms).
