Confolens gets its name from the word "confluence," as it is situated where rivers meet. This town has been an important trade route since Roman times, with the Vieux Pont being the town's historic 8th-century Roman bridge over the majestic river Vienne. The bridge, featured on the town's coat of arms, once had three defensive towers along its span.
Confolens is rich in culture and music, hosting many festivals throughout the year. Its most renowned event is the week-long international folk music festival in August.
Within the town and its surroundings, there is plenty of entertainment for the whole family to enjoy. Please refer to our guide on the Ville de Confolens tab (above left) for more information.
Confolens is approximately a 40-minute drive from Limoge airport, which is served by Ryanair with flights from several UK airports, including East Midlands, Leeds-Bradford, and Manchester. The small and efficient airport offers a pleasant 1 hour and 30-minute flight, eliminating the standard hassles of holiday travel. Once on the roads, which are less crowded than those in the UK, you can relax and explore the Poitou Charente region. This region is filled with beautiful countryside, charming villages, and towns, as well as larger cities such as Poitiers, home to the second most popular theme park in France after Euro Disney. Confolens serves as an ideal base for your holiday adventures.
