Description:

Description for B&B:

Around 1850, Jules Romain Alexandre Cloud, a carpenter, purchased the dilapidated cider press in the village of Saint-Siméon. He ingeniously constructed a cement spillway with vanes and a short canal at the convergence of the Presles and Piétré streams to supply water to the wheel of his sawmill, which he positioned perpendicular to the cider press. The structure of the mill is quite unique, featuring twisted, vaulted, and knotty beams that were not typically used for his regular customers. It wasn't until later that he added his own house to the property.

In 1955, an antique dealer and fresco teacher acquired the property known as "Moulin de Mizande." With great care, he restored the circular trough, the wooden mechanism, the millstone of the crusher, and the large gear with its box-wood teeth. Additionally, he adorned the place with beautifully carved wooden panels, alcoves, fireplaces, and staircases from the 17th century. The name "Moulin de Mizande" originates from the spring that emerges in the field, close to the spot where Sanctus Simeon the Stylite struck the ground with his stick while preaching in Gaul during the 4th century.

During early April, the area is adorned with a rare variety of anemone (ranunculaides), which can no longer be found elsewhere in the Ile de France region. Due to this unique characteristic, the Museum National d'Histoire Naturelle has cataloged the plant life found in this exceptional location.

The present owner has made various improvements to the Moulin de Mizande, including the construction of a parking lot, a garage, and a porch, as well as the restoration of the wheel and vanes. The stables have been expanded, the attics in the house have been renovated, and overall household comforts have been enhanced, all while maintaining the original charm of the surroundings.

At the Moulin de Mizande, we offer our guests a tranquil and leisurely experience, along with a warm welcome in the meticulously preserved environment of this truly remarkable place.
