Description for B&B:
In the realm between history and legend lies the majestic Mt Viso, also known as the "stone king", standing proudly at a height of 3841 meters. This enchanting mountain has captivated explorers throughout the ages. We find ourselves in the Marquisate, a region of Occitan territory known as the Po valley, which is the birthplace of Italy's longest river. This land is adorned with castles, abbeys, and monasteries, and its ancient mule tracks and dirt roads have been traversed by monks, merchants, knights, and outlaws alike. The fabled "road of salt", a vital route connecting Italy to France, was frequented not only by men, but also by caravans carrying salt, anchovies, oil, spices, textiles, and other goods.
Within this landscape, lies the "Mt Viso hole", a remarkable tunnel measuring 75 meters in length, located beneath the Traversette col at an altitude of 2882 meters. This tunnel was created to facilitate the passage of laden mules and stooped men.
Merchants from the Dauphiné, Provence, and Burgundy would journey from farm to farm, crossing the Alps, descending the hills, and arriving in the plains. Many of these travelers would seek respite in the ancient inn where Virginia, with her warm smile, would welcome them with a hot meal and the comforting embrace of a crackling fireplace.
Today, after extensive restoration, the "Virginia" agriturismo reopens its doors. Step inside and be transported to a rustic and inviting atmosphere, adorned with stone, wood, terracotta, and antique furnishings. The warm colors of the rooms evoke the essence of rural homes, while the wood and wrought-iron beds, wardrobes, and desks pay homage to folk culture. The curtains, reminiscent of Occitan boiserie found in historic mansions, add a touch of elegance.
Our guests are invited to enjoy the spacious common areas, including a cozy sitting room, a breakfast and dining room, and a library with a fireplace, providing a haven for relaxation. In the basement, a spacious cellar awaits, offering the opportunity to sample wines and indulge in the flavors of this Occitan territory.
Discover the charm and allure of this captivating place, where one can reconnect with oneself and uncover forgotten traditions and cultures. We offer six double rooms and one triple room, all featuring private bathrooms. Enjoy a buffet breakfast, and take advantage of amenities such as TV, telephone, fax, and internet access. Free private parking is available on site.
We take pride in offering tastings and sales of typical products, some of which are produced on our very own farm. Our wine cellar and wine-and-food library provide a delightful experience for connoisseurs. Additionally, we organize excursions and events to enhance your stay.
Indulge in the simple pleasures of life, such as freshly baked bread from our wood oven and farm-fresh milk sourced from cows grazing on the alpine pastures of Mt Viso. And remember, good things in life taste even better when shared with friends.
