Vallabrègues is a medieval village that is administratively attached to the Languedoc-Roussillon region but is geographically located in Provence. It has absorbed the culture, traditions, and language of Provence. The village has a rich history and is famous for being the setting of Frédéric Mistral's novel "Mireille." Mistral, a poet, writer, and Nobel Prize laureate in Literature in 1906, lived in Vallabrègues and depicted the village and its inhabitants in his novel.
Vallabrègues dates back to the Bronze Age and was known as a village of weavers until the 1960s. Its weaving tradition is celebrated with a grand feast every second weekend of August. The village offers a charming and peaceful atmosphere, with narrow streets and a cool ambiance. You can experience the tranquility of Provence nights and enjoy naps accompanied by the soothing sound of cicadas.
Despite its peacefulness, Vallabrègues is conveniently located near famous sites, all within a distance of twenty kilometers or less. These sites include Avignon and its renowned Palais des Papes, St. Remy de Provence with its Roman ruins of Glanum, Les Baux with its picturesque village and medieval castle, Fontvieille with the famous Moulin de Daudet, Arles la Romaine with its prestigious ancient past, Tarascon with the impressive castle of King Rene, and Beaucaire with its medieval castle and the Eagles of the Roman aqueduct Pont du Gard. Maravillosa estancia
