Description for Gite

Les Caselles: A Farmhouse Retreat on the Causse

Experience the charm of history and sustainable tourism at Les Caselles farmhouse. Dating back to the 17th century, this authentic Aveyron building is nestled in the heart of the Grands Causses Natural Park, benefiting from the expertise of the renowned builders of nearby Saint-Beauzely.

Situated near Millau, the Gorges du Tarn, and the Larzac plateau, Saint-Beauzely is the birthplace of the builders of the Templar and Hospital cities' fortifications.

Once a thriving Causses farm in the picturesque hamlet of Azinières, Les Caselles played a significant role in the production of the famous Roquefort cheese. With over 400 hectares of land, the farm provided a home for ewes to graze on the nutrient-rich Causse Rouge, known for its exceptional flora.

Over time, the farm fell into disrepair under the care of tenant farmers, putting this proud Caussenarde building at risk. However, in 2000, a buyer embarked on an extraordinary renovation journey, with the vision of transforming it into a farm inn and bringing the tourist project to life. Thus, "Les Caselles" was born and welcomed its first travelers.

Today, in the winter of 2020, Mikaël and Alizée Pélégry have made a life-changing decision. Their mission is to provide quality and environmentally-conscious tourism.

Mikaël, previously a director at a Parisian theatre, reevaluated his priorities after the major events of 2015 in the performing arts industry. The recent birth of his daughter and the desire to offer her a unique living environment convinced him to turn the page on his professional life and move to Aveyron, his family's ancestral home.

With a commitment to environmental sustainability, Mikaël and Alizée set out to transform this old farmhouse into an eco-friendly, low-energy residence. Thanks to the expertise of local companies, the energy consumption is comparable to that of a single-family home, housing five top-of-the-range guest rooms, a charming gite, and various communal and private areas.

At Les Caselles, they take pride in offering their guests high-performance, eco-responsible facilities, allowing visitors to feel less guilty and more responsible during their stay. From small changes to major renovations, they continuously reinvent themselves in their daily operations. Whether it's upgrading heating systems, converting to LED lighting, utilizing rainwater, installing solar panels, or providing electric vehicle charging points, every action contributes to their sustainable and responsible approach to tourism.

The table d'hôtes at Les Caselles follows the same principles. They embrace local, fresh, and quality products from short circuits, allowing guests to discover the region's producers and the richness of Aveyron.

Mikaël and Alizée aspire to offer a true Aveyron experience and become one of the finest guest houses in the region. Their dedication to friendliness and quality sets the bar high, ensuring that every visitor enjoys a remarkable and unforgettable stay.

Join the "slow tourism" movement and embark on picturesque, active, and environmentally-friendly holidays in Aveyron at Les Caselles!
